Hamilton: Canada’s rising life sciences powerhouse

Hamilton is rapidly emerging as a major hub for life sciences innovation in Canada, largely driven by McMaster University’s research, innovation, and entrepreneurial support. McMaster has spawned numerous successful startups, like Fusion Pharmaceuticals, which was recently acquired by AstraZeneca for $2.4 billion.

Meanwhile, Hamilton actively fosters this growth with a dedicated life sciences strategy to attract investment and raise awareness. The city’s ecosystem includes promising companies like Triumvira Immunologics, Afynia Laboratories, Elarex Inc., and ImaginAble, each tackling different areas of healthcare innovation.

“Life sciences is right up there as one of the burgeoning sectors within the city,” Hamilton’s Director of Economic Development, Norm Schleehahn, told Hamilton City Magazine.
