Hamilton is Home to North America’s fourth fastest growing tech sector labour Force

Economic Development’s Karol Murillo speaks with Rick Zamperin about Hamilton’s booming tech sector labour force.

Hamilton demonstrated another sign of its ongoing economic transformation in a recent study conducted by LinkedIn. In an interview with Good Morning Hamilton’s Rick Zamperin, Karol Murillo speaks to how Hamilton and the bay area have become home to the fourth-fastest growing tech sector labour force in North America.

Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey provides additional evidence of this growth. Compared to 2020, 2021 saw nearly 12,000 more people living in Hamilton who worked in the professional, scientific, and technical services sector. This is a nearly 50% gain on the sector’s previous labour force size. It also exists as part of a longer trend that has seen Hamilton on a strong growth trajectory within this sector.

During the conversation, Karol contextualizes this success as the product of years of effort. It is additionally important to note that this success is shared by many partners within the city, itself. A world-class labour force is the result of our world-class educational institutions in McMaster University, Mohawk College, and Redeemer University helping to shape young people at the start of their careers. Of equal importance are Hamilton’s progressive employers who are willing to invest in the training of their employees at every stage of their development.
