Government of Canada investing in Hamilton’s steel industry to support the Green Industrial Transformation which includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions, supporting green jobs, and a stronger green economy.
This investment will support ArcelorMittal Dofasco’s investment of $1.764 billion dollar project to convert the steel production process and phase out coal-fired steelmaking in Hamilton. One of the goals is to be net-zero by 2050. This project will contribute towards Canada’s climate goals by reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 3 million tonnes per year by 2030.
