Quebec steel company Corbec is expanding to Hamilton with a plant in the Red Hill Business Park. The 100,000-square-foot galvanizing plant will cost between $50 million and $100 million to build and will employ about 110 full-time workers when it is finished by the end of 2020.
The galvanizing plant will be serving customers in the south-west Toronto region producing galvanized steel products ranging from bridges, windmills, fencing and farming equipment. Speaking to a gathering of provincial and municipal leaders, Corbec’s CEO John Hall said: “We like the strategic location, you want to fit in with the environment and the type of neighbouring companies. It felt like a good fit and here we are.” With three galvanizing plants in Quebec, Thursday’s ground breaking marks the opening of Corbec’s first galvanizing facility in Ontario.
