CHCH is moving to a new home in Flamborough after 70 years in downtown Hamilton.
The television station has purchased 4 Innovation Dr., in Flamborough, with plans to move into the premises by spring 2021. CHCH sold the current building, located at Jackson and Caroline streets, in October 2016. The property is slated to be the home of the proposed Television City condo towers.
Chris Fuoco, the vice-president of sales and marketing for CHCH’s parent company Channel Zero, said the timeline for the move is dependent on design, planning and approvals.
“There’s a lot of unknowns at this stage,” he said, adding the company hopes to move sooner than 2021. “Once the building is set up, we want to build an almost parallel newsroom. “We really like the facility, we like the location.” — Chris Fuoco
“So we’ll sign off in our old location and the next time we turn the news on, either later that evening or the next day, we’ll be up and running in the new building.”
Fuoco noted the Innovation Drive property is a “blank canvas” for the company.
“We really like the facility, we like the location.”
The building doesn’t currently have studio space necessary for news programming, but it does have space to expand at the rear of the building.
“That’s where we contemplate putting in a couple of studios,” he said, noting the plan is to build a two-storey addition. As well, the company plans to include a garage in the addition to park their fleet of news vehicles.
The building has as footprint of about 22,000 square feet, and the proposed addition would be about 5,000 square feet.
