On Jan. 12, 2023, Premier Doug Ford visited Bimbo Canada’s Hamilton facility to announce $1.5 million in funding provided through the Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Competitiveness (AMIC) Program to support a new production line at the Hamilton Plant. The AMIC Program offered by the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade invests in advanced manufacturing companies to increase Ontario’s competitiveness, create more skilled jobs and encourage innovation. Bimbo Canada’s largest and most innovative bakery, located in Hamilton, is investing in a new production line to increase the production of tortillas by 25 per cent, responding to the growing national demand. “Our government is thrilled to support this investment from Bimbo Canada – a growing Ontario company that believes in its community and is creating jobs for the people of Hamilton,” said Ford during the official announcement. New Hamilton Mayor Andrea Howarth also attended the event. “Our jobs in food manufacturing have grown by 33 per cent since 2016,” said Mayor Horwath. “This is thanks to companies like Bimbo Canada for recognizing that Hamilton is the city they can grow in and invest in, with a talented workforce at the ready. Hamilton’s facility, the Trillium Bakery, is Bimbo Canada’s largest and most innovative bakery in Canada, and Hamilton is very proud of that.” Bimbo Canada’s new production capacity through the province’s investment will increase exports from Ontario to serve demand across the country and will also lead to the creation of 17 new jobs. Bimbo Canada has operated for more than 100 years. With its 16 bakeries, 14 distribution centres, and 191 depots across the country, Bimbo Canada is a leading producer and distributor of fresh packaged breads and snacks, with more than 1,000 products across 18 brands, including Dempster’s, Stonemill, Villaggio, Vachon Cakes and Takis.
