Hamilton Retail Co. helps reduce that risk. It’s more than just retail space. It’s a structured business development program.
Over a six-month residency, participants operate from a dedicated retail space within Hamilton Retail Co. while receiving business coaching, mentorship, and practical retail experience to strengthen their business and build confidence.
The storefront becomes the classroom, and every customer interaction is an opportunity to learn.
What’s Included:
Located at 89 King Street East in the heart of downtown Hamilton, Hamilton Retail Co. provides entrepreneurs with the space, support, and experience to grow their business.
Every participant receives:
- A dedicated retail space for a six-month residency with option to renew
- One-on-one business mentorship, coaching, and advisory services
- Business planning, market research, and growth support
- Marketing, branding, and retail merchandising guidance
- Destination marketing through Hamilton Retail Co.
- Basic retail fit-up that may include: shelving, racking, tables, and display fixtures
- Shared amenities, including Wi-Fi, utilities, and common areas

How it Works:
Step 1: Apply
Complete the application and tell us about your business, products, and plans for growth.
Register for an upcoming info session on October 22, 2026 at 12 PM.
Step 2: Get Selected
Applications are reviewed through a competitive selection process based on business readiness, market potential, product-market fit, and commitment to growth.
Step 3: Grow Through Experience
Participate in an initial six-month residency with retail space, coaching, mentorship, and hands-on experience.
Step 4: Graduate & Take Your Next Step
Complete the program with stronger business foundations and a clearer path for your next stage of growth, including the potential to renew or pursue permanent retail.
Program Eligibility:
Applicants must:
- Be operated by someone 18 years of age or older
- Be legally registered in Ontario
- Sell products suitable for a retail environment
- Have inventory that is ready to sell
- Have a business plan or be willing to develop one
- Maintain minimum $2 million Commercial General Liability insurance, naming the City of Hamilton as an additional insured
- Be able to meet the program’s operating requirements
- Comply with all applicable municipal, provincial and federal requirements
Preference may be given to businesses operating in Hamilton and the surrounding area or those committed to establishing a long-term presence within the city.
