These grants include designated heritage buildings. The goal is to support the broader revitalization of the commercial district and generate new municipal property tax revenue through increased property assessments. Additional financial incentives are available for developments that include affordable housing units or meet environmental sustainability objectives, such as obtaining specified certifications or achieving District Energy Readiness.
Properties must be located within the Ancaster, Barton Village, Binbrook, Concession Street, Downtown Hamilton, Dundas, Locke Street, Ottawa Street, Stoney Creek, Waterdown, Westdale Commercial Districts, or Mount Hope/Airport Gateway. Property and buildings designated under Part IV or Part V of the Ontario Heritage Act within the Hamilton Municipal Boundary are also eligible.
Provides grants based on the actual increase in municipal property taxes resulting from property improvements or developments. Grants are distributed over a maximum of four annual payments and require City Council approval.
