The partnership brings together leading researchers, industry partners, and government to accelerate the development and commercialization of next-generation electric vehicle technologies—strengthening the city’s position as a hub for automotive innovation and sustainable mobility.

McMaster University and the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) have announced a new partnership to establish the Southern Ontario Innovation Hub (SOIH) in Hamilton — a major milestone for the city’s role in Canada’s clean transportation future. Anchored at McMaster’s Automotive Resource Centre (MARC) within McMaster Innovation Park, the Hub will co-locate industry, academia, and government under one roof, bringing together world-class research infrastructure, advanced powertrain testing facilities, and a deep talent pipeline.
By embedding NRC expertise directly within MARC’s 90,000-square-foot facility, the partnership is designed to accelerate the development and commercialization of next-generation electric and intelligent vehicle technologies — shortening development timelines and strengthening Hamilton’s position as a national cornerstone for advanced manufacturing and clean mobility innovation.
