The Government of Canada is investing over $12.5 million through the Regional Tariff Response Initiative to help nine local manufacturers navigate trade pressures, upgrade equipment, and protect jobs.

The Government of Canada recently announced a combined investment of over $12.5 million aimed at supporting nine businesses in the Hamilton area. Administered through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), the funding is part of the Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI).
According to the federal government, the financial support is intended to help local businesses navigate current tariff-related pressures, strengthen supply chains, and protect manufacturing jobs in the region.

This local investment coincides with the federal government’s broader announcement of a $7.5 billion national package of measures, which includes an additional $1.5 billion directed to the RTRI starting in September 2026. According to the government, this expansion will increase the cap on non-repayable contributions and introduce new liquidity support for eligible businesses adjusting to evolving trade conditions.
