Late in the evening of August 19th, Section 338 tariffs on selected Canadian goods entering the United States came into effect. The Hamilton Economic Development Office has provided an update on estimated local impacts.

Late Friday, trade talks between Canada and the United States broke down. More than 500 products traded between the countries are now subject to a 50% import tariff when entering the United States.
Economic Development’s preliminary estimates, based on an established methodology, suggest that approximately 12% of Hamilton’s goods-producing companies may be impacted by these tariffs.
