Agri-Food Incentives and Programs

Below is an evolving list of agri-food related programs and grants. These programs are generally offered through the Government of Ontario and the Government of Canada, as well as their respective agencies and ministries. City staff can help you determine if a given incentive is a good fit for your business.

Agri-Food Incentives

Ontario Agri-Careers Support Initiative

A $4 million fund to help build a strong and competitive agri-food workforce that will ensure people can continue to access the safe and healthy food grown and made in Ontario.

Through the Canadian Agricultural Partnership, the new Ontario Agri-Careers Support Initiative will support pilot projects that help the sector attract, support and retain workers by developing solutions that enable businesses to better meet the needs of employees.

Pilot projects may be eligible for up to 70 per cent of approved expenses to a maximum of $80,000 for individual businesses or up to $200,000 for a collaboration between two or more businesses.

Strategic Agri-Food Processing Fund

A $25 million fund over three years designed to strengthen the agri-food supply chain. This funding will incentivize industry investment in projects that help address the processing capacity shortage and increase the sector’s competitiveness and resilience against future disruptions. The Strategic Agri-Food Processing Fund will provide grants of up to $3 million to agri-food processing businesses to invest in capital, equipment and technology.

Mental Health Initiatives for Ontario Farmers

A $7 million dollar investment through two multi-year programs designed to support those working in agriculture. These programs will provide farm families across the province with free counselling services as well as help connect at-risk farmers with tailored support and resources.

The programs are scheduled to launch in early 2022.
