Hamilton, ON- August 14, 2019 – As part of its 2019 Canada’s Best Communities rankings, Macleans Magazine has ranked Hamilton in the top 25 and third “Big City” overall. This ranking, along with Hamilton being named in the top 2 in North America for tech cities of “opportunity” by CBRE last month, proves that the Hamilton economy is moving in a very positive direction.

Eisenberger.
“This Council has made strategic decisions to ease the process and advance
opportunities for large investments in this city, while at the same time allotting
tens of millions of dollars in poverty reduction activities- including
affordable housing. Clearly, we are one of the best communities in Canada
because we are working to ensure no one gets left behind in this new economy.”
As part of the ranking process, Macleans gathered data on 415 towns and cities across the country and compared them in the following categories: wealth and economy, affordability, population growth, taxes, commute, crime, weather, access to health care, amenities and culture.
Hamilton boasts one of the top hospital networks in Canada, has an internationally renowned music, fashion and film scene, and more affordable housing options in comparison to the Greater Toronto Area. In the past two years, Hamilton has seen a number of significant tech related investments from corporations such as L3 Wescam (330,000 square foot Canadian Head Office), Stryker (127,000 square foot Canadian Head Office), Pipeline Studios (leading Canadian animation firm working with international brands such as Disney, Nickelodeon, Nelvana), and IBM Canada (Innovation Centre utilizing Watson technology for Digital Health research).
“These rankings are welcomed and appreciated, but there is still much work to be done,” said the City of Hamilton’s Economic Development Director Glen Norton. “Our goal is to continually increase the tax assessment for non-residential development and that in turn will allow the City to continue to provide quality services for residents and business that make us one of the top communities in Canada.”

Its services are geared to serve new start-up companies, corporate relocations, and the expansion and retention of existing business. Its mission is to serve as the catalyst for continued economic growth, job creation, and revitalization in Hamilton.
